Wipro Net is today the first ISP in the country to have successfully integrated its nationwide Internet protocol network with the I-Net network of the Department of Telecommunications.

This integration extends the reach of the network. Wipro Net will continue focus on quality of service so customers benefit from its carrier grade services.

Wipro Net is again the first Indian ISP to provide documented service levels with guaranteed response time and reliability agreements signed with corporate customers.

Wipro Net will create platforms for e-commerce applications and offer a host of value-added services, network management services, and end-to-end Internet business solutions including content creation and Web applications.

Wipro Net, with headquarters in Bangalore, manages a nationwide fault tolerant network, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, through communication hubs in eight major cities.

Wipro has been an Intranet, extranet services provider in the country for the last three years.

Wipro Net currently provides messaging, file transfer and enhanced fax services to over 500 corporate customers. Its Internet Services will be rolled out in phases from June 1999.

Migration of existing services to Internet based services will be the first phase. The second phase would involve launching of services like Web access, Web hosting, secure virtual private networks, managed firewall services, global roaming and outsourced private networks.

Wipro Net is planning to introduce services for the consumer market segment as well after test marketing them in a few select cities.

Arun Thiagarajan, vice-chairman, Wipro Limited, said: "The launch of Wipro Net is the first step in our strategy to address the Internet services market. With its established leadership in the business segment, Wipro Net is well placed to achieve its goal of emerging as the top IP based communications services provider in India, both in terms of market share and quality of service."

Anand Talwai, CEO, Wipro Net Limited, said: "We have built up strong service experience and skills over the past three years. This, backed with our superior technical expertise, a scaleable network, new services and required skill sets, will give us a definite edge over competition."

Wipro Net Limited is a part of the Rs 18.3 billion (1997-98) diversified and integrated Wipro Corporation operating in services, technology products and consumer products.
