Cyber laws draft finalised

in Bangalore, said the government would also appoint a second Labour Commission to propose the required amendments to the laws.

He appealed to the chambers of industries and commerce and other organisations to forward their suggestions to the commission.

Referring to the second report of the Information Technology Taskforce on hardware, he said the industry should not totally depend on it. "It is for the industry to undergo an ideological change... a global thinking to compete in the international market," he warned.

Gupta said the government is also working on the framework for venture capital for the IT sector. A conference on the issue had been arranged to thrash out problems related to company law, income tax law and other related areas.

A suitable amendment to the existing laws would also be made soon to approve electronic signatures for e-commerce operations, he promised.

Delivering the keynote address, Brian Antell, president of C-Mac Microcircuits, said providing infrastructure is the government's job. The governmental agencies should work faster to give approvals, implement guidelines and provide the required facilities, including infrastructure.

State Information Secretary and Managing Director of Keonics Sanjay Dasgupta, in his address, emphasised the need for special attention in the area of hardware. He said 50,000 software engineers are graduating against a mere 500 in hardware.

It is necessary to set right the imbalance immediately. He suggested setting up of an exclusive zone for this sector.
