Parametric announces demand surge

Email this story to a friend. Parametric Technology Corporation has announced a surge in demand for its design automation product for the year ended September 1998.

This assumes significance when seen in light of the fact that most of the buyers are manufacturing companies who are turning to technology in these days of recession.

Among the new customers that have taken the automation route to cut costs and become more competitive in the fast globalising economy are the TVS Group, LML, Eicher, Kirloskar, Sriram Pistons and a host of other large corporations.

But this trend of investing in information technology to become competitive is not just restricted to large corporations. Small and medium sized companies are also taking the plunge.

One such example is the Gujarat based manufacturer of pumps and motors, Jyoti Limited, which has a turnover of Rs 1.4 billion and has invested Rs 17.5 million on PTC's CAD and CAM solutions - Pro/Engineer.

Another example is that of Haryana-based Sona Steering Systems Limited that has a turnover of Rs 2.2 billion and has invested Rs 6 million on Pro/Engineer. The company plans to pump in more money into CAD and CAM.

According to Anurag Srivastava, regional director of PTC, the year's performance in the Indian market is a clear indication that Indian corporations, big and small, are increasingly viewing information technology as a friend in the time of global competition and lackluster markets.

The earlier scenario of pushing and concept selling is now giving way to one of partnering and sharing the customer's concern to be competitive.

That has resulted in PTC garnering a significant 300 plus customers in India for its product, Pro/Engineer. In fact in recognition of this burgeoning number of users in the country, Parametric Technology is hosting its first ever user meet at Bangalore during the last week of November.

Parametric Technology (India) Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of parametric technology corporation, USA.

In the last two and a half years in India, PTC has delivered a significant competitive advantage to almost 250 customers involved in industries such as heavy engineering, automotive, ancillaries, medical and consumer electronics.

Their customer base in India includes companies like Telco, Eicher, Bajaj, LML, Videocon, Bluestar, Amtrex, Sona Steering, BHEL, Aeronautical Development Agencies and Defence Research Development Limited.
