Mahindra-British Telecom will now customise it for use in the Rs 8 billion build-and-operate assignment that Alltel has bagged to cover telephony services in Maharashtra.

Reputed to be the wireless industry's workhorse, the customised Virtuoso-II is expected to help Hughes India maintain a competitive edge through its several rating and packaging options that enable improved marketing opportunities.

Moreover, its design will enable a single billing and customer care platform for the entire range of telecom products offered by Hughes Ispat.

The Alltel-MBT alliance is being viewed as an extended partnership for customisation of Virtuoso-II for other markets globally.
