Modular Systems launches Indian language office suite

Modular Systems, a Pune based company, today launched Ankur, a new suite of Indian language office applications.

'Ankur' is a suite comprising a script processor, a built-in multilingual word processor and multilingual executive/personal diary.

an English oriented environment. This in turn allows the use of Indian scripts and fonts in any of the Windows based application like MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PageMaker and CorelDRAW!

The built-in word processor is an independent multilingual word processor that allows all functions of a standard word processor like character attributes, page setup, print settings and import/export. The executive diary allows users to maintain personal information in their own language. It also has an alarm facility to remind the user about his appointments.

Dr M N Cooper, partner in modular systems, said the features of the software are specially designed to suit the needs of the Indian user and the low cost of Ankur helps.

Along with Ankur, the company has also launched a CD with 1,500 clipart graphics that are arranged and classified in different categories like history, famous people, worship, religion, festival and dances.

R R Joshi, a partner in the company, said the clipart available today are mostly Western and devoid of Indian culture.

Joshi claimed great care has been taken in preparing the clipart CD by identifying popular images, sketches and photographs and then digitising them.

To market the products, Modular Systems has tied up with Cirrus Electronic Systems, which has offices in 13 prominent Indian cities.

Cirrus Chief Executive Officer Sanjiv Mehta said the entire package could be installed in personal computers that can be used by most software.

Modular System and Cirrus have also decided to launch a direct mail campaign aiming at the non-metro PC user.
