Adultery case: CJI begins reading out verdict

A five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court is pronouncing its judgment on the validity of section 497 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which criminalises adultery.

The pronouncement of the judgment has commenced, with the Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra saying that a 'husband is not the master of a woman." 


The bench also comprises justices RF Nariman, AM Khanwilkar, DY Chandrachud and Indu Malhotra, while the Centre is represented by Additional Solicitor General Pinky Anand,
