The West Bengal government to cut petrol and diesel prices by Re 1 per litre, says chief minister Mamata Banerjee. Bengal is the third state after Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh to have slashed fuel prices. While Rajasthan cut down on value added tax on fuel by 4 per cent, Andhra reduced the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litre.

This comes a day after the Congress party-led protests yesterday calling for a Bharat bandh on rising fuel prices. The TMC did not support the bandh yesterday, but said it supported the cause in principle.
