Pune court gives cops 90 days to file chargesheet against activists.

The action comes after the Pune police on Saturday sought a 90-day extension in a special court for filing the chargesheet against the five persons arrested from Nagpur, Mumbai and Delhi in June for their alleged role in organising the Elgar Parishad at Shaniwarwada on December 31, a day before the January 1 clashes in Koregaon Bhima.

Assistant commissioner of police (Swargate division) Shivaji Pawar filed the application before judge K D Vadane seeking the extension under Section 43 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act on the grounds he would not be able to file the charge sheet in 90 days under the Indian Penal Code from the date of arrest of the suspects.
