Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be invited to Pakistan for the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation or Saarc summit, Pakistani newspaper Dawn reported quoting country's foreign office spokesman Dr Mohammad Faisal.

The invitation comes after Pakistan invited Union minister Sushma Swaraj, Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh and Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Kartarpur corridor.

On Wednesday, Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan will be joined by two Indian ministers to lay the foundation stone at the Pakistani side, where pilgrims from India will be able to visit their revered Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwaraby November 2019, to mark the 550th anniversary of Guru Nanak.

No Indian minister has visited Pakistan since Home Minister Rajnath Singhs SAARC visit in 2016, which was followed by the Uri attacks.

Last week, both countries announced that they would develop Kartarpur corridor in their respective areas, linking Dera Baba Nanak in Punjabs Gurdaspur district with the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan.

Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, the final resting place of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev, is located across the Ravi river in Pakistan and is about four kilometres from the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district of Punjab in India.
