The Sabarimala shrine opens its doors to pilgrims amid heavy security. The temple will be open for two months or precisely 62 days for the Mandala Pooja-Magaravilaku annual pilgrimage season. At least 15,000 security personnel, including the Kerala police and commandos have been posted at the shrine.

High drama was witnessed at the city airport today as activist Trupti Desai remained confined to the airport terminal since arrival early this morning enroute to Sabarimala following protests by devotees and others opposing the entry of menstrual age women into the Lord Ayyappa temple.
