"Defamation complaint against me frivolous; it is an attempt to stifle my freedom of expression," said Congress leader Shashi Tharoor reacting to the news of a complaint being filed against him for his remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party leader Rajeev Babbar in his complaint alleged that Tharoor with mala fide intention made the statement which is not only abuse of the Hindu deity but also defamatory.

The complaint, filed through advocate Neeraj, termed the statement as intolerable abuse and absolute vilification of the faith of the people.

Tharoor stoked a controversy last Sunday while speaking at the Bangalore Literature Festival, claiming that an unnamed Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader had compared Modi to a scorpion sitting on a Shivling.
