In the run-up to the assembly polls in the state of Karnataka, former Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are scheduled to visit the state for their election campaign later today.

Almost two years after abandoning her poll campaign midway in Varanasi, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi will hit the campaign trail in Karnataka and address a public rally in Bijapur.

It is not clear whether she will address more rallies in Karnataka, which goes to polls on May 12.

Party sources said she would address tomorrow's rally only.

Gandhi has not campaigned for almost two years. She was inactive during electioneering in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Nagaland.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing three rallies today: Mangaluru, Bengaluru and Vijaypura.

With the election to the 225-member Karnataka state assembly edging closer, the state has become a battleground with public rallies being the primary form of warfare.
