Former Australia captain Steve Smith and deputy captain David Warner have been banned from playing for Australia for 12 months as a result of Cricket Australia's investigation into the ball-tampering incident, the ABC reports. They have seven days to appeal the ban. Cameron Bancroft has been banned for nine months.

Steve Smith stepped down as Australia captain on Sunday and has been suspended for one Test by the International Cricket Council amid stunning ball-tampering revelations that have plunged the Test team into crisis.

Smith was also fined 100 per cent of his match fee, while opening batsman Cameron Bancroft, who was caught on camera attempting to alter the condition of the ball, was handed three demerit points and a 75 percent fine of his match fee.  He also stepped down as skipper of IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals.

David Warner stepped down as captain of Indian Premier League franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad as the fallout of the ball-tamping scandal continues. It comes after one of Warners personal sponsors, LG, confirmed it would not be continuing its deal with the opener.
