Campaigning for Telangana, Rajasthan assembly polls ends

A high-decibel election campaigning by political parties in the poll-bound states of Telangana and Rajasthan have concluded on Wednesday.

Voting in both states will be held on December 7, amid tight security.

Counting of votes will take place on December 11.

In this view, both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress have left no stone unturned to make a victory in the poll-bound states.

The last day of campaigning saw a political slugfest between top leaders hitting out at each other.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Congress president Rahul Gandhi and other prominent leaders conducted back to back rallies and public addresses before the curtains were drawn on campaigning in Rajasthan and Telangana.

Telangana has 119 Assembly seats, and 1,821 candidates are in fray.

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti is facing the grand alliance of the Congress, Telugu Desam Party, Communist Party of India and the Telangana Jana Samithi.

The 200-member Rajasthan assembly is scheduled to go to polls on December 7.

The elections are being held on 199 of the 200 seats to the state legislature.Polling in Alwar has been countermanded following the death of a Bahujan Samaj Party candidate.

In the fray are 2,294 contestants and around 51,000 polling stations are being set up in 33 districts. -- ANI
