The long-awaited general council meeting as well of the executive committee of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam will be held at Sri Varu Venkatachalapathy Palace Mahal in Vanagaram, near Chennai, on Tuesday.

This will be the decision-making body's first meeting since Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's death last year.

The meeting, involving 3425 primary members of the party, will be presided over by the party presidium chairman E Madhusudhanan.

Under the party constitution, only the GC can appoint the party general secretary, and it is a foregone conclusion that it will expel Sasikala from the party.

As a mark of respect to Jayalalithaa, Palaniswami has ordered that only vegetarian lunch will be served to GC members.

When the two factions, headed by O Panneerselvam and Edappadi K Palaniswami had met at the party headquarters in August, convening the GC meeting was among the four resolutions that had been adopted.

But the general council meeting couldn't be convened as a suit was filed against it in the Madras high court. With the court dismissing the case, Palaniswami wasted no time in convening the long-awaited meeting.
