GST Council meeting today ahead of midnight launch
June 30, 2017  18:02
The GST Council will meet on Friday at 7 pm at Vigyan Bhawan in central Delhi, ahead of the midnight launch of India's most ambitious tax reform since its independence in 1947.

Vigyan Bhawan is just minutes away from the Parliament, where the GST launch will take place in an hour-long program where Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Pranab Mukherjee, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will be present among others.

Former prime minister Manmohan Singh who was invited to be a part of the function is likely to be absent as the Congress party has decided to boycott the program.

So, what is likely to happen at the GST Council meet ahead of the launch, is the big question.

Sources say it is just a pre-cursor to the main event, which will be followed by dinner at Vigyan Bhavan, after which the team will proceed to the Parliament. "Any tweaking is tax rates in the meeting is highly unlikely," one of the sources said. The Council meeting is expected to last for an hour.
