Neelam Krishnamoorthy, President, Association of victims of Uphaar tragedy on the Kamala Mills fire: Human life is very cheap in India. There is corruption at every level and its the ordinary people who have to pay. Each time I see a fire taking place and people dying, it angers me a lot and I feel I have miserably failed in my endeavor to stop such fire incidents. I would blame the judiciary and the government for this.

On June 13, 1997, 59 people died due to suffocation after a fire broke out at the Uphaar cinema hall in Green Park in New Delhi. The fire had erupted during a screening of the film Border. More than a hundred people were seriously injured in the incident. Neelam lost her two teenage children in the fire.
