Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday compared Indian Army's surgical strikes along the LoC to 'Chhoti Diwali'.

Addressing a rally in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi, the prime minister said, "We celebrated 'Chhoti Diwali' on September 29".

The army had conducted surgical strikes along the Line of Control on September 29 to eliminate terror launch pads in the PoK.

"When our army showed valour across the border, the whole of Varanasi erupted with joy. I thank you for that," PM Modi added.

He also expressed happiness and pride on the way the entire nation has supported and paid tributes to the army for their bravery and service to the nation.

On Saturday, PM Modi had made an impassioned appeal to people, asking them to send Diwali wishes to the jawans.

"We must convey to them that we are proud of them every minute of the day," he said.
