India, Myanmar joint statement at the joint press meeting:

PM Narendra Modi: "I welcome her Excellency to her second home. It is an honor for us to receive you in India," PM Modi addresses Aung San Suu Kyi.

"As you lead Myanmar to become modern, prosperous, India and its friendship will stand by you in full support, solidarity.  We've agreed to enhance our engagement in several areas including agriculture, power and renewable energy. Our societies enjoy a centuries old cultural connect. We have offered assistance in restoring pagodas damaged in recent earthquake.


"The ASI will also soon begin work on restoring two old temples and inscriptions of King Mindon and King  Baygyidaw in Bodh Gaya. As close and friendly neighbours, the security interests of India and Myanmar are closely aligned. India has a robust development cooperation programme with Myanmar.

Aung San Suu Kyi, State Counsellor of Myanmar: We are inspired by by Gandhi, Nehru. We are confident that our countries can overcome challenges. The time has come for us to say that, yes we can do this. We have always admired India for being the greatest democracy in the world.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi met State Counsellor and Foreign Minister of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi here on Wednesday, the third and concluding day of her three-day state visit to India.

"An old friend from the East, a partner in our common Progress. PM receives Myanmar State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi at Hyderabad House," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted along with a picture of the two leaders.
