Amid suspicion of foul play in the road mishap in which West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew and TMC MP, Abhishek Banerjee, was injured, a team of forensic experts today visited the accident site near Singur on National Highway 2.

The forensic experts collected broken glasses, examined the paints on the surface of the truck with which the TMC youth wing president's car collided while returning to Kolkata after a public meeting in Murshidabad district.

Police today registered attempt to murder and conspiracy cases against unknown persons in connection with the mishap. Sections under the Highways Act were also added in the case, a senior officer of the CID said.

Though nobody was detained in the incident, a few persons, mainly eyewitnesses, were today questioned by the CID, the officer said.

According to the medical bulletin issued in the evening, the MRI report confirmed that Abhishek suffered "orbital floor fracture".
At present he is under strict observation of the 14-member medical board. Any decision on surgical intervention shall be made as soon as the acute swellings subside.
