Villagers in large numbers gathered outside the home of Border Security Force Constable Nitin Kumar's home to pay respects to the fallen soldier.

Kumar lost his life on Monday when terrorists tried to infiltrate a Rashtriya Rifles camp in Baramulla. The plucky 24-year-old from Etawah noticed movement 25 yards ahead of his bunker and immediately got out and made a move towards the intruders.

He and his 'buddy' were then attacked by the terrorist who launched grenades using an Under Barrel Grenade Launcher. The splinters hit Nitin Kumar, injuring him. Seeing this, Constable Parminder took his place, but even he was injured.

The bravery displayed by Nitin and his colleagues prevented further damage and led to the killing of two terrorists.

Constable Nitin was evacuated for medical help by helicopter, but later succumbed to his injuries
