Uproar continues in Rajya Sabha as the Opposition refuses to budge from its demand of a reply by the Prime Minister in the House.

Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said since the PM had announced the demonetisation decision, he only is able to reply to the Opposition's question and he must come to the House.

"If PM makes a big announcement, protocol is that PM gives statement on first day of Parliament. It is the first time that a PM hasn't followed that," Azad said in the RS.

Congress leader Anand Sharma said the Banking Act, and the Constitution doesn't give the prime minister or the Union finance minister the power to deprive people access to their own money or ration it.

There was strong objection from the Treasury benches when Naresh Agarwal of the Smajwadi Party called them 'Sarkari Dalal'. The ruling party members protested and Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi requested the Chair to expunge his remarks and seek and apology from him.

Agarwal's remarks were later expunged.

But uproar continued post Azad's statement. Members of the Opposition trooped into the Well and started shouting slogans against the PM and the government.

The deputy chairman then adjourned the House for the day.
