In Bengal, Left alliance just 1% behind Mamata, says opinion poll

The Left-Congress alliance is expected to breathe down the neck of the Trinamul Congress, grabbing a vote share of 44 per cent against the ruling party's 45 per cent in the coming Assembly elections in Bengal, an opinion poll shows.


Conducted by ABP Ananda-The Nielsen Company, the poll was largely carried out before the Narada videos became a talking point and the Opposition combine gained momentum.


The outcome broadly follows the trend of the 2014 Lok Sabha election, if the Left and Congress votes are added (see chart). But the one big takeaway is that Left-Congress attempts to consolidate the anti-Mamata Banerjee secular vote appear to be paying off. Read more
