Much like the aftermath of the Paris attacks in November 2015 and the Charlie Hebdo attacks in January last year, social media users unified in full strength to condemn the Brussels attacks.

This morning a spate of attacks rocked the Belgian capital of Brussels, which left at least 38 dead according to Belgian media.

Brussels residents wasted no time in reaching out to those who might have been affected, offering shelter and a shoulder to cry on.

In echoes of the aftermath of the Paris attacks in November, people in Brussels immediately took to Twitter using the hashtags #OpenDoor and #PorteOuverte to signal safe locations where people could go if they were in need.

Those geographically distant, lent their support to Belgium with these sketches and cartoons.
