A Remotely Piloted Aircraft of the Indian Navy on a surveillance mission off the Kerala coast was made to crash into the sea today after it suffered engine failure.

A navy release here tonight said the RPA experienced engine failure on a routine surveillance mission off Kerala coast.

"The RPA was thereafter ditched into the sea in a controlled manner to ensure no damage to lives or property," it said. It further said a search was launched immediately and parts of the aircraft, including the engine, have been recovered. "A board of inquiry is being ordered," the navy said.
