#UnfairandLovely: Dark-skinned women unite to fight against pressure for fair skin

Within the latest viral hashtag lies a powerful campaign against colourism and the need for solidarity between dark-skinned people across the world.

#UnfairAndLovely highlights the marginalisation and discriminatory beauty standards dark-skinned women experience in countries where fair skin is favoured.

The social campaign has inspired women from all walks of life to celebrate their dark skin in order to bridge the divide between women of colour.

The viral movement is the creative by-product of a photo shoot by University of Texas student Pax Jones, who shot a series on the impact colourism has had on herself and two other Sri Lankan students.
