Lest we forget...

On this day, in 1999, the mutilated body of Lt Saurabh Kalia of the 4 Jat was handed over by the Pakistani army to Indian army commanders at the Kargil sector.

Lt Kalia was killed during the Kargil War while being held as a prisoner of war by the Pakistani security forces. He along with five other soldiers of his patrolling team was captured alive and kept in captivity where they were tortured, then killed.

His family has continued trying to get justice from the government, and to highlight the war crimes that were committed against their son and other Indian soldiers, with no success.

Their fight continues, to this day, 17 years on.

RIP Lt Kalia.
