Parliament gets a smoking enclosure

A Smoking Zone, a special enclosure for MPs has been earmarked in Central Hall by the Lok Sabha Speaker as the entire Parliament premises is smoking free. The regulars to the smoking zone are Union Ministers Ashok Gajapati Raju, Muqhtar Abbas Naqvi, CPM leader Sitaram Yechuri CPM MP T K Rangarajan, Swapan Dasgupta and  Sugato Roy of the Trinamool. Few West Bengal and Assam MPs smoke beedis. Journalists are not allowed into this enclosure.

As matchboxes cannot be brought inside Parliament House, Tea Board and Coffee Board bearers who light the gas stoves quietly hand over matchboxes to law makers.

Out of 793 MPs, around 50 to 55 are chain smokers, according to Parliament staff.
