Heavy rains began on July 26 and continue till date only increasing in intensity. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Bangalore recorded a whopping 41.8 mm of rain. In a span of four days, Bangalore has recorded over 135 mm of rainfall, which happens to be about 30 mm more than its monthly rainfall in July, reports Skymet.

However, rainfall intensity and spread both have been more during the last 24 hours. The fire department used boats to rescue people who were stranded in the rain waters.Fallen trees added to the problem in many areas.Worst-hit were areas near the city's lakes - or what had once been lakes.

Biocon chief and Bengaluru resident Kiran Mazumdar Shaw tweeted: Bengaluru has become Bengalaku. Incessant rains have created lakes across the city. Traffic is in a gridlock.
