Female student leaps to death in Chennai campus

A day after three girl students committed suicide at a medical college in Villupuram district, a second year engineering student from Anna University leaped to death from the terrace of her hostel building on Sunday night.

The victim has been identified as Shanmuga Preetha (19), a B Tech Ceramic Technology student at the Guindy College of Engineering.

The incident happened around 11 pm. Police said the victim went to the terrace of Nandiya hostel, located within the college premises, and jumped to death. Preetha suffered a head injury and was rushed to a private hospital in Adyar, where she was declared brought dead.

"We are yet to ascertain the reason which drove her to take the extreme step," said the investigating officer attached to the Kotturpuram police station.
