Tamil Nadu CM and AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa has made changes to the pattern of electioneering in state when it goes to the polls next month. For the first time, Jaya has ensured that five of her allies contest on her party symbol -- the two leaves.

This is a clear shift in strategy since during previous poll agreements, allies used to contest on their poll symbol. This move, believes the AIADMK will stymie defectors and smaller parties from walking out of the alliance.

Jayalalithaa allotted seven of Tamil Nadu's 234 seats to allies Monday and announced an initial list of 227 candidates for her party. Jayalalithaa will contest once again from R K Nagar, north of Chennai city, from where she had won the bypoll last June with a margin of 1.5 lakh votes.
