Just in: The Bihar government has imposed total prohibition in the state.  Bihar is now officially a dry state after the cabinet banned the sale of foreign liquor as well.

A partial prohibition had been imposed on the state in last month, with a ban on the sale of country-made alcohol. Today the state imposed a complete ban with the ban on the sale of foreign alcohol. The alcohol ban is part of chief minister Nitish Kumars poll promise.

Alcohol prohibition in India is in force in the states of Gujarat, Nagaland and parts of Manipur; as well as in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. Kerala has been implementing prohibition in a phased manner since 2014.
