Jailed Al-Jazeera journalist Mohamed Fahmy has reportedly received a presidential pardon in Egypt. The President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, has pardoned Fahmy, the ABC reported.

Fahmy, a Canadian national, was jailed alongside Australian journalist Peter Greste and Egyptian Baher Mohamed, on allegations they aided the Muslim Brotherhood and their reporting was "damaging to national security".

He was facing a retrial on those charges. The three men were sentenced to three years in prison in a retrial last month, but Greste was tried in absentia after he was deported from Egypt in February.

Sisi has reportedly issued pardons for about 100 prisoners, including Fahmy, but Greste and Mohamed were reportedly not included.
