"Since ancient times different civilizations have given a special place to Sun," Prime Minister Modi said.

"President Hollande responded with immediate support to my long cherished dream of International Solar Alliance," he added.

"In India, Sun is the source of all forms of energy. As Rig Veda says, Sun God is the Soul of all beings, moving & non-moving. This day is the sunrise for new hope, not just for clean energy but for villages who do not get energy," he said.

"A vast majority of humanity is blessed with generous sunlight around year, but many are without a source of power," the PM said.

"This is why alliance is so important; we want to bring solar energy to everyone making it cheaper, reliable & easier to connect to grid," he stated.
