Environment Minister Prakash Javdekar has taken up the task of putting forth the Indian perspective to counter criticism made by the US administration that India's consumption of coal is way too high causing environmental pollution in the region.

World leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be heading to Paris later this month for COP21, the United Nations' conference on climate change. The challenge for 196 countries is to reach a legally binding agreement to keep global warming below 2 degree Celsius.

Javdekar drew up a calendar to brief the Congress and the Left parties by Wednesday and regional  parties thereafter before he leaves for Paris on November 27 for the Climate Conference.

Today, Javdekar held organised a briefing for the electronic and print media on the conference. Javdekar says that Narendra Modi's foreign visits and the recent Africa summit in Delhi had helped foster the right image ahead of the Climate Change conference.

He said India has regained its lost status in the global arena with Modi meeting foreign heads making it easier ahead of Javdekar's visit to Paris where he has to interact with 160 countries representatives.
