When Spelling Bee champ Vanya met Obama

It was a breathtaking exhibition of spell-manship at the Spelling Bee competition. And it comes as no surprise that desi kids dominated the competition yet again and how! Seven of the 10 finalists were Indian-Americans.

Interestingly, Vanya Shivashankar from California (a co-winner along with Gokul Venkatachalam) is the younger sister of a 2009 spelling bee champ Kavya. Vanya is the first sibling of the former champion.

After bagging the prize in 2009, Kavya met United States President Barack Obama, as most Spelling Bee champs have the honour to do so.

Accompanying Kavya was her youngster sister and star of today's competition Vanya.

Little Vanya is seen in this picture looking starry-eyed at the president. Who wouldn't? :)
