Union Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani had a fierce Twitter war with Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today over IIT Madras' decision to ban a students body which was critical of the Narendra Modi-led Central government.

Rahul wrote on his official Twitter handle, "IIT student group banned for criticizing Modi Government. What next?"

The Congress student wing, the NSUI also held protests outside Irani's residence in New Delhi against the IIT Madras decision.

Irani reacted with a series of tweets:

@OfficeofRG yesterday u told NSUI to create disorder where there is order. Today ur goons come to my house as I'm away at work.

@OfficeofRG tell ur men strong arm tactics were tried in Amethi n didn't scare me during Lok Sabha elections. They won't scare me now.

OfficeofRG give me a time n place n I'm ready to debate everything re governance including education.

No truce so far.
