US senator Ted Cruz will announce White House bid on Monday

US Senator Ted Cruz of Texas will announce that he is running for president of the United States during an appearance on Monday at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, according to a campaign adviser.

The Republican, a tea party favourite, will launch an outright bid for the White House rather than forming an exploratory committee. Cruz will be the featured speaker on Monday at Liberty University's student convocation.
