Left Front sweeps by-poll in Tripura
June 30, 2015  20:28
The ruling Left Front in Tripura has swept the assembly by-polls while the ruling Congress won the lone seat in Meghalaya.

The Communist Party of India-Marxist, the major constituent in the ruling Left Front, won both the LACs in Tripura in the by-election, results of which were declared on Tuesday.   Anjan Das and Ramu Das (both CPI-M) won from Surma and Pratapgarh (SC) assembly constituencies in Tripura by comfortably defeating their nearest Bharatiya Janata Party rivals Ashis Das and Moushumi Das respectively.

In Meghalaya, Bluebell R Sangma of ruling Indian National Congress (Indian national Congress) won the by-election from Chokpot constituency in South Garo Hills by defeating the nearest National People's Party rival Phillipole  D Marak.

The significance about the results of by-poll in Tripura is that the BJP candidates in both the LACs have clinched the second position replacing the Congress.
