Chinas strength is obvious, its future role is not

The status of "developing country" confers some privileges in today's global economic system. For example, it is entitled to subsidized loans, its trading partners are required to remove trade barriers to facilitate the country's exports and it does not have to undertake any serious commitments to reduce emissions to address climate change. Consider where China stands on each of these dimensions.
