With five weeks to go for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort, the Government has dispatched nearly 300 Central observers across the country to verify whether toilets have actually been built in schools, especially for girls.


Following a directive of the Prime Minister's Office, the Central observers in the rank of Director and Deputy Secretary, will visit the schools in next two days and submit their reports by July 13.


Each of the observers will visit 15 schools in urban areas and 10 in rural areas in all states to verify whether toilets have actually been built, whether separate toilets have been built for girls in co-education institutes and whether there is drinking water supply provision, official sources said.


The observers will carry out random checks, meet District Collector and prepare their assessment after visiting the schools. The observers were given a special proforma to be filled up after visiting each of the school detailing their findings about toilets, water supply and general ambience. '


Addressing the nation on the Independence Day last year, the Prime Minister had said, "There should be separate toilets for girls. Next year, when we stand here, every school should have toilets for girls and boys".
