Google has apologised after its photos app tagged African people as 'gorillas.' Twitter user @jackyalcine posted a picture of her friends that had been tagged as Gorillas. (See the picture alongside).

Google Photos, a new app launched in May, automatically, tags pictures that a user uploads using the search engine's own artificial intelligence software.

Obviously, the intelligence has been found wanting.

Google also issued an officially apology on the issue, saying they were "appalled and genuinely sorry" that it happened. The company was taking immediate action to prevent similar results from appearing.
