A short ride on the Chennai metro has catapulted DMK leader MK Stalin, who is party chief Karunanidhi's son, into a major controversy.

Stalin, who is the treasurer of the DMK was caught slapping a man on board the Chennai metro. According to a video which has gone viral, Stalin is seen slapping a man standing in front of him inside the metro, and then asking him to move from there.

Stalin was accompanied by his supporters and travelled from Koyambedu to Alandur.

While the DMK has maintained that Stalin did not slap the man who is believed to be a party worker, Stalin said that the man was blocking his way and stepped on people's feet. "I was directing him to an emptier space, I didn't mean to slap him," Stalin said.

The ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu has condemned the incident.
