India, US should focus on research: Kalam

Former President APJ Abdul Kalam today said that both India and the US should give the highest priority to research programmes and build new industries. 

"A lot of political discussions will take place (during Obama's visit to India). Important thing is the industrial development in the academic area," Kalam told PTI when asked to comment on the importance of US President Barack Obama's visit to India on occasion of Republic Day. 

The former President was in the city as the chief guest in Engineering Export Promotion Council, India (Eastern Region) 31st Award Ceremony held here today. 

"We have to focus on some research. Both countries have to give the highest priority to research in certain areas and also on new industries like IT, biotechnology and innovation technology, combined with," the Missile Man of India added.
