Fishermen issue imporatant: PM Modi in joint presser of Sirisena

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena hold a joint press conference after their meeting at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.

The two nations have signed various significant agreements on agriculture and culture. They have signed a pact on peaceful use of nuclear energy. They signed an MoU on the Nalanda University.   

"A privilege to welcome President Sirisena. Honured that you chose India as your first overseas destination. India is Sri Lanka's closest neighbour and friend. Goodwill and support of the people of India will always be with you," Modi said at the presser.

"Timeless connections of history, religion and culture provide a strong link for our partnership. I believe that our destinies are inter-linked. Our security and prosperity are indivisible."

"We have agreed to explore economic cooperation between the two nations. President Sirisena and I attach highest importance to the fishermen issue, will address fishermen associations on both sides soon. We are at a moment of an unprecedented opportunity to take our bilateral relations to a new level"
