US Army approves hormone therapy for Chelsea Manning

The US Army has approved hormone therapy for gender "reassignment" for Chelsea Manning, the soldier convicted of leaking a trove of secret documents, in a first for the American military, officials said today.

The move was "based on a medical assessment for the individual," a defense official told AFP. "It was the right decision to make," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
