Ishrat Jahan case: Former Gujarat top cop Vanzara gets bail

Former Gujarat top cop D G Vanzara set to walk out of jail after court grants him bail in Ishrat Jehan encounter case.

The special CBI court in Ahmedabad, has already granted bail to IPS officer PP Pandey in same case.

Pandey was the Joint Commissioner of Police when Mumbra-based 19-year old college girl Ishrat Jahan, Pranesh Pillai alias Javed Sheikh, Amjad Ali Rana and Zeeshan Johar were allegedly gunned down by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch sleuths on the outskirts of the city on June 15, 2004.

Vanzara was deputy to Pandey in the crime branch when the encounter had taken place. Apart from Pandey and Vanzara, CBI had charge-sheeted IPS officers G L Singhal and Narendra K Amin and other officers Tarun Barot, J G Parmar and Anaju Chaudhary for murder and criminal conspiracy.

The  CBI started the investigation following a Gujarat High Court order in December 2011. It concluded that the encounter had been staged by the Gujarat police and the Intelligence Bureau.
