Nitish's U-turn on liquor ban: Govt to sell foreign alcohol in Bihar
December 18, 2015  10:53
After promising to ban the sale of alcohol in Bihar, which will result in an approximated annual loss of Rs 4,000 crore to Bihar, the Nitish government has put out tenders that indicate a major U-turn. The Nitish-led Bihar government now intends to ban the sale of only country made liquor, and not of foreign liquor.

Earlier this month, Excise and Prohibition Minister of Bihar Abdul Jalil Mastan had said that Bihar would have a 'total' ban on all kinds of liquor starting April 1, 2016.

However, the Bihar government now plans to sell foreign liquor through government outlets. For this, the Excise department has initiated the process to acquire land for setting up outlets and the  storage for sale of liquor.
