Govt ready to climb down on OROP if hunger strikes stop

The BJP government is set to announce the One Rank One Pension (OROP) package soon which will not only satisfy armed forces veterans, but will also aim at convincing those who are not part of the agitations.

According to government sources many stakeholders in OROP are not necessarily part of the agitations and they believe it is high time that the government establishes contacts with such groups through former Chiefs of Army staff.

The government will walk the middle path, say sources, which means the terms and conditions should satisfy OROP pensioners.

The first and foremost condition is that veterans on hunger strike should withdraw their stir at the earliest and come to the discussion table.
