BJP ahead in crucial Bengaluru polls

The BJP, which had a majority in the last corporation elections in Bengaluru, is ahead as votes are counted to the 197 city corporation wards. Karnataka's ruling Congress is trailing in second place. The BJP is currently leading in 59 wards, the Congress in 39 and the Janata Dal Secular in 10.


In one ward, the BJP candidate won unopposed. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike or BBMP has 198 wards. For the first time, 50 per cent seats were reserved for first women candidates in the high-stake BBMP elections.
